Data the app handles
trnscrb may handle:
- User-selected PDFs, images, and audio files.
- Generated Markdown output.
- Local app settings.
- A Mistral API key, stored locally in macOS Keychain.
- Optional S3 endpoint, bucket, access key, and secret key, with secret keys stored locally in macOS Keychain.
Local processing
When Local mode is selected and available, trnscrb processes selected files on device using Apple frameworks. Generated Markdown is saved to the folder you choose. Local settings are stored on your Mac in Application Support.
Cloud processing with Mistral
When Cloud mode is selected, trnscrb sends selected files or content to Mistral to perform transcription or OCR. You provide your own Mistral API key, and Mistral is not operated by trnscrb.
Review Mistral’s privacy policy and legal terms before using Cloud mode.
Optional S3 mirroring
If S3 mirroring is enabled, trnscrb uploads original files to the S3-compatible endpoint and bucket you configure. trnscrb does not provide the S3 storage account. You control the endpoint, bucket, access key, and secret key.
Credentials
API keys and secret keys are stored locally in macOS Keychain. trnscrb does not intentionally transmit credentials except as needed to authenticate with the service you configured.
Retention
Generated Markdown remains where you save it.
Local settings remain on your Mac until you remove them.
Data sent to Mistral or S3-compatible storage is subject to those providers’ retention policies and your account configuration.
